Conference introduction

The ESCAP/WMO Typhoon Committee has been holding one session annually since 1968 as specified in its Rules of Procedure. The convenor or the annual session is the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) and is organized in cooperation with the World Meteorological Organization (WMO).

Representatives of non-member countries and international organizations (ICAO, UNDP, DHA and others) participate at the session in the capacity as observers. Preparations for the annual sessions, including preparation of the session documents are handled by the Secretariat of ESCAP, WMO and TC. Delegates and observers to these sessions are from agencies involved with the meteorological, hydrological and disaster prevention and preparedness aspects of the Committee’s programme.

At each session, the committee reviews the progress made since its last session and takes stock of the current status of implementation of the various programmes required for an efficient system in reducing typhoon damage.

This website aims at facilitating access by Typhoon Committee Members and international organizations to register to participate in the 51st ESCAP/WMO Typhoon Committee to be held in Guangzhou, China from 26 February to 01 March 2019.
